UN YOUTH VOLUNTEER PROGRAMME
The UN Youth Volunteer Programme for Korean nationals is financed by the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs, Korea and implemented by the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme.
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme contributes to peace and development through
volunteerism worldwide. In 2016, UNV deployed 6,590 UN Volunteers in 126 countries. Some 352
were UN Youth Volunteers.
UN Youth Volunteer assignments are an opportunity for young individuals to work with UN agencies
on the frontlines of political, developmental and humanitarian operations. Korean UN Youth
Volunteers offer their services to developing countries for a 12 to 18 month period, and contribute
their skills and talents as agents of change for a new set of sustainable development goals. These
young people get international exposure, grow at the professional and personal level; strengthen
their professional expertise and skill set, broaden peer networks and gain experience within the
United Nations system.

their service, i.e. born between 1 August 1989 and 31 January 1996.
Qualifications: Candidates must hold a university degree.
Professional experience: Candidates should have up to two years of working experience.
While the UN Youth Volunteer is expected to substantively contribute to the work of the agency, the
youth modality has been carefully designed to also provide hands-on experience to those young
people who have not had the opportunity to gain a wealth of professional experience yet. In this
regard it aims at enhancing the skills and competencies of the Youth, including through a learning
component that is an integral part of the assignment. Based on this concept, candidate’s previous
work experience in areas relevant for the assignment, should not exceed two years, wherein
volunteer experience or internships count as work experience if they involve substantial work, or are
directly related to the candidates’ field of study.
Languages: Fluency in at least one of the three UNV working languages: English, French and Spanish.
The language requirements vary according to the country of assignment; the information is specified
in each Description of Assignment (DoA).
All Interested candidates are encouraged to indicate any internationally accepted English standard
test (e.g. TOEFL / TEPS) in their application under ‘Additional Remarks’. If another language is
required as per DOA, candidates are encouraged to indicate in their application certificates received
in that language.
