1. Scientists don't agree on what dreams mean or why people dream. Some say that dreams have no meaning and no purpose. They say dreams show activity in the brain, but it's like the activity of a car going in circles with no driver. It doesn't do anything useful. On the other hand, some scientists claim that dreams are helpful. They say dreams are good for learning new skills and developing strong memories.
2. Some people report that they feel better after crying. This could be because of the chemicals in emotional tears. One chemical is a type of endorphin, a painkiller that the body naturally produces. Emotional tears increase the amount of endorphin that gets to the brain because tears flow from the eye into the nose and pass to the brain that way. This painkiller may make a person less aware of sad or angry feelings, and that could explain why someone feel better after "a good cry."
3. During the last million years or so, there was a big increase in brain size. This increase in brain size meant an increase in brain power. Some scientists say that these changes happened after people started to eat seafood. Seafood contains a certain kind of fat, omega-3 fat. According to these scientists, omega-3 fat caused the increase in brain size. Today, brain scientists agree: This fat is still important for healthy brains. They also say that most of us are not getting enough of it.
4. When a video game company has a new game, they give it to testers. Testers play the game and look for bugs in it. The word 'bug' usually means an insect, but a bug can also be a problem in a computer program. Video game testers need to have good computer skills. They need to understand how computers work. They have to install new hardware and software. Testers must have strong communication sills, too. They have to describe exactly what is wrong in a game.
5. The effects of Internet use depend on a person's character. The Internet allows social people to become even more social. It lets them get in touch with friends more easily, and they go out more often. And people who are not social may use the Internet to avoid others. They may like going online so that they don't have to talk to anyone. However, this does not mean that the Internet is unhealthy for shy people. In fact, the Internet can help shy people make friends. Researchers find that shy people frequently communicate more easily online than face-to-face.
